About Us

Welcome to our Company Web site. Here you can find out about our beginnings, our philanthropic and journalistic endeavors and how our staff is committed to quality news, information and entertainment in the U.S. and around the world. We strive to educate and inform our readers about world culture across multiple media platforms, for the benefit of our readers and advertisers.

To accomplish this, our primary focus is to provide informative writings on traditions, people, news, poetry & lifestyle, as it pertains to culture.  While the journal features articles on Caribbean culture and Reggae music, other World cultures are covered.

Talawah Online is an offspring to Talawah Magazine. The idea was founded by Jamaican born Valerie Murray, in 1995 to address issues relating to reggae music & the culture surrounding the genre.  Talawah means to be strong and brave it is derived from African dialect.  The word has evolved to “stalawah” and the English definitive, stalwart.

With the growing interest in Third World music, especially reggae, we decided to extend the knowledge of the people, their spirituality, and their strengths involved in establishing this genre.  During our beginnings we successfully launched four magazine publications throughout the western region of the United States, the Caribbean and Canada before taking a hiatus from publishing.

With a renewed interest in world culture our mission became clear:  To educate people around the world about the world around them; through music, events, and lifestyles using various forms of media.  Where there is abuse and neglect, Talawah is committed to being a positive and influential vehicle to eradicate such ills.  Another major goal of Talawah is to effectively discuss the roots and reach of reggae in the entertainment industry, to positively and graciously impart information about the culture of the country that gave birth to reggae in order to improve healing of the heart and mind.  At this same time, Talawah Journals is both a vehicle for advertisers to reach their target market and a vehicle for employment opportunities and skills development.
